Privacy Policy

This is a privacy statement which explains how I will hold your personal data.

What is personal information?

Personal information is any information that identifies you, or by which your identity could be deduced. The personal information I collect will include your name, home address, email address and GP details.

Will I share anything about our work together with anyone else?

The content of your emails or online appointments will not be communicated with a third party except for the purposes of supervision of my work. In this instance, the presenting issues are discussed in a general context, to help ensure I am working ethically and safely with clients.

Are sessions at Lqa therapy confidential?

Everything discussed within the sessions or exchanges remains confidential. However, I will have to pass on information if you show intent to seriously harm yourself or others or if you tell me something that leads me to believe a child is being harmed or is at serious risk of being harmed. I will tell you, where possible, if and why I feel it is necessary to pass on confidential information.

How is my privacy protected?

Under the General Personal information Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018, I am required by law to inform you about how I process and keep safe the personal information (data) I hold about you. I make every effort to keep all personal information confidential.

Where is the information kept?

Your personal information is stored securely and confidentially, and I am bound by the UK Council for Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. If I discover there has been a breach of your personal information, I will tell you as soon as possible.

What information is kept about me and who has access?

As the Data Controller and Data Processor I maintain and store brief notes relating to your sessions. I will not share this data with someone other than yourself, unless required by a court of law.

How long is information kept about me?

At the end of our counselling agreement copies of our exchanges will be stored securely for a period of 5 years and then destroyed after this time. I am a registered Data Controller and Data Processor and abide by the regulations imposed by such procedures.

How is my information stored?

The Client Agreement /Assessment form and any brief session notes are separately stored.

Any electronic contact we have during the process of assessment and ongoing sessions will be deleted from my computer at the end of our agreed work together.

How do I access my personal information?

Under GDPR you have the right to request a copy of session records. Where requested by you these will be shared within 30 days in electronic format.

Under GDPR you have the right to ask for records to be amended if you feel they are inaccurate. If you wish to ask for an amendment or if you raise objection to any data kept by me, such objection will be stored with the original session notes.
